Welcome to Stratford High School

CORE VALUES-

Students will acquire content knowledge, strengthen higher-order thinking, and develop character in order to address 21st century challenges.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

You are cordially invited to attend the Stratford High School OPEN HOUSE on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Our band will perform for your pleasure on the North Parade lawn from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Please enter via the North Parade entrances in the front of the building to enjoy this performance.

The evening's activities will begin promptly by 6:30 p.m. in Period 1.  (Be sure to verify your son's/daughter's schedule with them prior to this evening).

This is the first of many opportunities to meet with the teachers and staff this 2014-2015 school year; therefore, we ask that students do not attend.

A full agenda of the evening activities has been prepared for you and will be located in your child's period 1 class along with their schedule.  This schedule is your guide for the remainder of the evening.  Each period will last ten minutes and the Open House will conclude at 8:10 p.m.

During the Open House, each teacher will present an overview of the course, expectations for student performance and additional information pertinent to the class.  In depth conferences regarding your child's performance are scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

In addition to our classroom teachers, our school counselors, PPS staff, nurse, library media specialist, and the office administration will be available to meet you. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening in our cafeteria.  Table displays hosted by various parent groups as well as student clubs and organizations will be set up in the school hallways and cafeteria for your review.

I look forward to meeting you on September 8th.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Corso, Jr.
Principal

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

August 2014

Greetings to all Stratford High School Parents and Students:

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!  The school staff and I look forward to working with you and your son/daughter to make this a positive and successful school year.  Specific information regarding your son's/daughter's schedule will be available on the Parent Portal in mid-August.  Schedules will be reviewed and distributed to students the first day of school by the homeroom teachers.  In the event there is an error in a student schedule (ie: missing an academic class), homeroom teachers will have schedule change request forms available.  Upon completion by the student, the form may be returned to the homeroom teacher or dropped off in the counseling office before period 1, during a study hall (with a pass from the teacher) or after school only.  Schedule change request forms will only be accepted from Thursday 8/28 through Friday 9/5.

Each student will receive a student handbook in homeroom. It is very important that you review these documents with your son/daughter and discuss the specific school policies and procedures of our school for a thorough understanding of school expectations.  The handbook also contains a detailed explanation of the Stratford High School 21st Century Learning Expectations (7C's). You may also review the handbook on the SHS website under the School Profile tab.  As we open the school year, a meeting has been scheduled with each of our four classes and their administrator to review the handbook in greater detail.

Regular high school hours are 7:40-2:10 p.m. Students will report directly to homeroom. A personal schedule of classes will be given to each student during the scheduled homeroom period on Thursday, August 28th, 2014. The first day of school will be a full day.

Respectfully,

Joseph M. Corso Jr.
Principal
