Revised Academic Standards for Interscholastic Athletics of Stratford High School

The Stratford Board of Education adopted more stringent academic eligibility standards for student-athletes, beginning with the 2006-2007 school year. Fall sports student-athletes are advised that grades from the fourth marking period will impact eligibility for the fall season. Any student who receives more than one failing grade in any subject in the fourth marking period will be ineligible to participate in a fall sport. Also, any student-athlete who fails more than one course for the year (semester grade or full-year) will be ineligible to play a fall sport. The new standards are as follows:

In order to be eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics at Stratford High School or Bunnell High School, a student-athlete must meet the following standards:

1. A student must be taking a minimum of four one unit subjects each marking period.

2. In order to be eligible during the second, third and fourth marking periods, a student must pass four one unit subjects the previous marking period.

3. In order to be eligible during the first marking period, a student must earn four credits the previous school year and pass four one unit subjects during the fourth marking period of the previous school year.

4. A student who receives two or more failing grades (in any classes) the previous marking period shall be ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletics. (This includes the fourth marking period of the previous school year in determining eligibility for the first marking period as well as the final year grades, either semester or full year.)

Prospective student-athletes and parents should contact:

Athletic Director Bob Baird at 203-385-4240 regarding academic eligibility issues or concerns.
